Public Website for an Electronic Toll Collection System Developed for a Government Agency
Summary
A government agency needed a public website for its electronic toll collection system to bring together information about the tolling system — toll roads, rates, and service points — and encourage local and foreign drivers and companies to find information online instead of contacting the call center. INNERLUXES built an intuitive, multilingual Umbraco CMS website that integrates with the agency's related services, handles large numbers of concurrent users, and was delivered in phased beta and release versions, with ongoing support under an SLA.
About the Client
The Client is a government agency.
The Challenge
The Client needed to build a public website for an electronic toll collection system. The website had to bring together information about the tolling system and related data (toll roads, toll rates, service points, etc.) and encourage local and foreign drivers and companies to look for that information online instead of contacting the call center.
The website had to be released alongside other customer services (a toll calculator, a customer service point finder, etc.) and integrate with them. Because of this, the project required careful coordination with the Client's teams working on those other software parts.
The Solution
INNERLUXES built an intuitive website that provides a comprehensive set of information about the tolling system — including an FAQ page, user manuals, and video instructions — along with a map of distribution points. The website addresses basic user account management tasks, allows users to contact the operator directly, and lets them subscribe to newsletters. It was delivered in two versions — beta and release — which supported the Client's need for a phased rollout of the electronic tolling system.
The website supported multiple languages and browser versions and seamlessly handles large numbers of concurrent users.
Umbraco CMS was chosen as the content management platform, which allowed:
- Configuring multiple user roles such as editor, approver, translator, publisher, and more.
- Running two instances of the website — live and staging. The staging instance was used for development, adding new content, and testing new functionality, with synchronization between the two instances easily performed using the Umbraco Courier plugin.
Umbraco CMS is easy to learn and use for content creators, offers customizable editing and content-creation tools, and provides professional support. Built in compliance with Microsoft security standards, the CMS also offers a high level of security for users.
INNERLUXES delivered all supporting website documentation (website map, wireframes, and storyboards) and a user manual, and conducted several trainings for the Client's employees.
The Results
- INNERLUXES launched the website in accordance with the planned milestones.
- Cooperation with the Client continued under an SLA, with the main goal of keeping the software used by the website up to date and addressing possible inconsistencies.
