SharePoint Intranet Redesign and Enhancement with Business and Social Features
Summary
A US community bank's legacy SharePoint intranet had become dated in both design and functionality — hard to use, weak on search and communication, with no social-media integration or mobile access. INNERLUXES redesigned it on SharePoint Modern UI into a branded, mobile-friendly intranet with business and social features, Delve-based employee pages, and a policy-acknowledgement page, then trained the bank's administrators and content creators to run it.
About the Client
The Client is a US community bank that provides banking and financial services for individuals and businesses.
An Outdated Intranet That Needed a Modern Redesign
The bank's legacy SharePoint intranet had fallen behind in design and functionality. It wasn't user-friendly or engaging, lacked effective search, convenient communication, and easy content management, and offered no social-media integration or mobile availability. The Client needed a complete redesign and training on the new intranet's features, and chose INNERLUXES for its experience in SharePoint intranet design.
A Branded SharePoint Modern UI Intranet With Business and Social Features
INNERLUXES began by analyzing the Client's business needs and IT infrastructure and mapping SharePoint Online capabilities to the redesign goals. The team based the new design on SharePoint Modern UI to keep it on-brand, made the intranet intuitive and mobile-friendly, designed engaging pages, simplified content creation and updates, and used SharePoint's search engine for quick keyword- and tag-based search across the intranet and other corporate resources. The redesigned intranet's key components were:
- Homepage. Business features — useful links (document templates, policy management, employee handbook, knowledge base), a calendar, news, announcements, and an organization chart for employee search; and social features — upcoming birthdays, employee updates, communities and discussions, classifieds, and discounts, with the corporate Facebook and Twitter feeds integrated.
- Employee pages. Built with Delve as the user profile system, each page shows an employee's department, position, contact details, experience, skills, certificates, community memberships, and a calendar of business and social events, plus a workspace section with the tasks, documents, and training events relevant to that person.
- Policy management page. A dedicated section where each employee sees the policies assigned to them with status (for example, Extended or In Progress), the assigners' names, and due dates — split into overdue policies and those due soon — and can read and confirm them right on the page.
After delivery, INNERLUXES provided a user manual and ran comprehensive training on SharePoint Online features and content management for the bank's intranet administrators and content creators.
A Mobile-Friendly, Engaging Intranet That Connects Employees
The Client now has a mobile-friendly, easy-to-use, engaging, and more functional intranet that fits its existing IT infrastructure and meets its business needs. The branded intranet supports corporate culture and a sense of community: it connects all employees, lets them follow news and events, communicate, share files, and quickly find any colleague or information they need, and streamlines policy management to support employee accountability. Content managers can prepare, publish, and update content quickly, keeping the intranet dynamic and up to date.
